The good

California lawmakers act to mandate vaccines for day care workers — California lawmakers acted Friday on a measure that would require workers in day care centers to get vaccinated as part of an effort to protect children from preventable diseases, including measles, for which there have been recent outbreaks in the state. California lawmakers block effort to make child death records secret — A state Senate budget committee on Thursday blocked an effort to gut key provisions of a groundbreaking 2008 law that requires child protection services to release case records after a child dies from abuse or neglect. And, the bad

City sprays golf courses with tap water — The City of San Diego has continued using drinking water to irrigate two of its three golf courses amid worsening drought, increasing use by millions of gallons each year since 2013, city documents show. Morgan Cook in the San Diego Union-Tribune
