This was a once in a lifetime thing for most people, and certainly for my family. It mixed sports, and culture, and current events. This was the first Summer Olympics after the U.S.’s boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympics, because of the Soviet Union’s invasion and occupation of Afghanistan. It’s funny (strange) how hypocritical, emotional and temporary foreign policy is.
This was L.A. in the spotlight and it shined in many ways.
And, this was a memorable trip for everything that it was, and it was literally a personal once in a lifetime trip because my Dad had an undiagnosed cancer in which he’d be dead within six months.
